When Should Oral Hygiene Begin?
Many parents assume brushing starts when several teeth are present, but oral hygiene actually begins much earlier. Even before teeth erupt, gently cleaning the gums can help establish healthy habits and remove milk or food residue.
How Should Parents Clean a Baby's Mouth?
Before teeth appear, parents can gently wipe the gums using a clean, damp washcloth or infant oral care device. Once the first tooth erupts, a soft-bristled toothbrush should be introduced as part of the child's daily routine.
How Often Should Children Brush Their Teeth?
Most children should brush twice each day, most importantly before bedtime. For toddlers, brushing for 20-30 seconds is generally adequate. For school age children and older, brushing for 2 minutes is recommended. Consistent brushing helps remove plaque and food debris while supporting healthy enamel and gums.
When is My Child Old Enough to Brush On Their Own?

Even then, it's not a bad idea to take a look every once in a while to make sure they aren't missing any spots!
