Children's Dental Sealants

Dental sealants help protect the deep grooves of children's molars, where food particles and bacteria often become trapped. By creating a protective barrier over these hard-to-clean areas, sealants can significantly reduce the risk of cavities. This simple preventive treatment is often recommended soon after permanent molars erupt.

What Are Dental Sealants?

Dental sealants are thin protective coatings applied to the chewing surfaces of molars to help prevent cavities.

Why Children Benefit from Dental Sealants

The deep grooves of molars can be difficult to clean thoroughly. Sealants help protect these areas from food particles and bacteria that together can cause cavities. Behind fluoride, sealants are regarded as the second most effective dental intervention in preventing cavities.

What Happens During a Sealant Appointment?

Sealants are applied / "painted" directly to the tooth surface after cleaning and preparation. No drilling is required, and the procedure is typically completed over the course of 10-15 minutes. It can often be combined with a cleaning or other treatment viist.

Benefits of Dental Sealants

  • Reduced cavity risk

  • Protection of permanent molars

  • Quick, comfortable treatment

  • Long-lasting (several years) of preventive benefits
